Volunteer With ACT!!!

ACT is always in need of dedicated motivated volunteers who have a heart for helping the valley's animals!

There are countless ways to get ACTive!!! We are always looking for motivated individuals (16 years and up) or groups who love animals and want to become part of our ACT team!

Cat Cuddlers-  There are lots of kitties who need your love and attention while they wait for their forever homes!  Our cat rooms need volunteers who are willing to play with the cats, clean out litter boxes, make sure they have fresh food and water, straighten their area (sweep, mop, etc.), and just spend time with them. We have “Cat Cuddler” openings available 7 days a week between the hours of 9 am and 1 pm.

Canine Enrichment Program - The Sofia Adoption Center also has many dogs who need volunteers to care for and love them until they find their forever homes.  Our dogs always appreciate the playtime, walks, clean area, and fresh water that our volunteers provide for them.  We can also use volunteers who would like to work with our animals on basic obedience- teaching a dog some basic commands (sit, down, stay) can help them find their forever home much quicker. We have “Enrichment Program” openings available 7 days a week between the hours of 9 am and 1 pm.

Caring Cleaners-Whether you prefer indoors or outdoors, we have plenty of opportunities for individuals who would like to help the animals through cleaning.  There are windows to be washed, floors to be swept and mopped, weeds to be pulled, surfaces to be dusted, areas to tidy, and much more! We have cleaning openings available 7 days a week between the hours of 8 am and 2 pm.

Adoption Agents- We are always looking for outgoing individuals who enjoy talking with people, answering questions, and helping adopters find the perfect pet for them.  Adoption agents will need to be experienced volunteers who are familiar with the animals and facility.  These volunteers will also be giving tours of the facility. “Adoption Agent” openings are available every Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 am - 4:30 pm

Off-Site Adoption Crew- We are currently doing adoptions Saturdays at PetSmart in Riverpark. We can use volunteers to help us set up, clean up, and assist with the animals during the event.  Volunteers will be making sure the animals have a clean environment, giving the animals attention, and talking to people who come in about them. “Off-Site Adoption Crew Members” can volunteer during the hours of 11:30 am - 4:30 pm

Fabulous Fundraisers- As a nonprofit, we depend on donations to help us care for the animals.  Anyone can be a fabulous fundraiser by doing a fundraising drive at their school, church, work, or any other place available to them.  Fundraisers can be for supplies (blankets, crates, food, toys, etc.) or money that will be used for the animals.  Fundraising drives can also be done for a specific need: a dog or cat with a medical condition, spaying/neutering a certain number of feral cats in an area (part of our TNR project), etc.

Fantastic Fosters -  There is no greater reward than knowing you have saved an animal's life, and they will pay you back tenfold with unconditional love! You will be responsible for the animals’ basic needs: food, water, and shelter. ACT will take care of the medical expenses, and be there to offer support and answer questions. Click here for more information about becoming a foster parent.

Team Boss Walkers
- Want to get some exercise and help a shelter dog? Join Team Boss! Team Boss heads out every morning at a designated time (usually around 7 am) for a two-mile walk around the area with some of our shelter dogs.

Wallflower Group-
Come out and socialize some of our dogs that need it the most! Wallflower group meets on Wednesday nights at 6 pm at our Sofia Adoption Center.

Special Events- There are so many wonderful ways to get our message of kindness and compassion into the public, but none is better than special events. We are always looking for people who love helping plan events and spend time chatting with the community about the wonderful work we do. Special events include adoption events, fundraisers, community outreach, and educational presentations. Special events allow us to serve our community and stay in touch with the needs of people and animals while allowing our animals the opportunity to have time away from the shelter. “Special Event” volunteer opportunities will vary.

STUDENT PROJECTS: Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Volunteers who are 16-17 years old can volunteer without a parent or guardian, but their parent or guardian must attend orientation with them. We do ask that new volunteers commit to a minimum of 5 hours of volunteer time per month for a minimum of 6 months. All hours for school/class must be pre-approved please email Mel at mell@animalcompassionteam.com with class requirements.

We are always happy to work with Eagle Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies, and other organized groups.  Just let us know how your group would like to be ACTive in helping the valley's animals!

Volunteering at ACT has been a life changing experience for me. All of the staff and fellow volunteers are amazing, kind people. We are all there for one reason - the animals! I am a little involved in different areas of the rescue such as boss walk, wallflower group, and I get to help adopters on Sundays and sometimes I help work with the big dogs outside! I even have been given the honor of doing new volunteer orientations which I truly enjoy! The best part of volunteering is seeing the dogs leave with their forever families. At the end of the day I am always covered in dog hair which to me means I accomplished my goal - giving the dogs the love they deserve =)
